Meet the AI creators and see what they have been working on during a weeklong residency!

Choreographic Coding Lab (CCL) is an international travelling experimental laboratory, founded by Motion Bank, where dance, choreography, digital tools, data and code come together. The emphasis is not on results or income but on freedom for experimentation, invention, community and peer-to-peer cross-pollination of knowledge and expertise. UK’s first CCL was hosted by A+E Lab in 2022 and we are excited to host the 2nd CCL this March, with a focus on AI. This CCL is facilitated by David Rittershaus (Motion Bank at Hochschule Mainz), Daniel Bisig (Centre for Dance Research, Coventry University, Zurich University of Arts and Motion Bank) and Marlon Barrios Solano (University of Florida).

In a one-week interdisciplinary peer-to-peer setting, 10 international creative coders work on their own projects, share knowledge and discuss ideas.

This free open day sharing event will be an opportunity to see the results of the week’s workshop and find a new ways to explore creative technology. These results might range from prototypes for artworks to new tools for working with dance-related datasets and use of AI.

The CCL format offers unique opportunities of exchange and collaboration for digital media ‘code savvy’ artists who have an interest in translating aspects of choreography and dance into digital form and applying choreographic thinking to their own practice. This format supports working with patterns in movement scores and structures through finding, generating and applying them with results ranging from prototypes for artworks to new plug-ins for working with dance-related datasets. The CCLs seek to support a sustainable collaborative practice among its participants, encouraging ongoing exchange in a growing artistic research community.

This CCL will have a focus on AI and facilitated by Marlon Barrios Solano from the University of Florida, Daniel Bisig from the Centre for Dance Research, Coventry University, Zurich University of the Arts and Motion Bank and David Rittershaus from Motion Bank.
